Part of the proceeds goes to the United Golfers Association, committed to the advancement of minority players in the game of golf and Urban Golf Club, Inc., inspiring youth golf players through financial literacy education. During the tournament, the golf legacy of Charles T. Cross will be recognized. This Tuskegee Airmen pilot was a founding member of the first Black golf club in Springfield, MA the Home City Golf Club. In addition, Rediscover Mapledale will be unveiling a compelling traveling historical exhibition that examines the nationally significant legacy of Mapledale Country Club and its founder, Robert H. Hawkins, within the broader context of Black golf and American sports history, called Robert H. Hawkins: Impact on Golf at Mapledale 100 Years. The exhibition will debut as a pop-up installation at Stow Acres Golf Club—formerly Mapledale Country Club—on August 29, 2026. Following its opening, the exhibition will travel free of charge to schools, libraries, museums, historical societies, and community spaces throughout Stow and surrounding Massachusetts communities. This event was made possible thanks to Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area, the Mass Cultural Council, Stow Cultural Council, and Lancaster Cultural Council, and Tricons 2 Red Tails. Hosted by Rediscover Mapledale, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with the long-lasting vision to continue to commemorate Black history in Stow, Massachusetts. Read less
